Cyan offers stylish, eco-friendly and affordable urban living in downtown Portland. We worked in partnership with Gerding Edlen Development to bring the first major architectural addition in 30 years to Portland’s oldest residential neighborhood, taking care to leave a minimal social and environmental footprint. Surrounded by three parks, and the traditional cultural venues of the Auditorium District, Cyan is set amidst the secret gardens and third spaces of the Garden Blocks, solidly integrated within Portland’s historical core. Likewise, each resident can easily find his or her own place in the tapestry of the building’s elegant “woven glass” façade (created by renowned local architect, Thomas Hacker) upon selecting one of approximately 300 homes in prices ranging from the low $200s to the mid $600s. Cyan’s design also showcases sustainable development practices from roof gardens to rainwater harvesting, while the adjacent public transportation hub replaces the need for a car with the potential for spur-of-the-moment outings by streetcar, light rail, or bus to just about anywhere in downtown Portland and beyond. All these threads come together in Cyan’s Green Room, an eco-modern retail salon that provides a forum for new ideas around living more responsibly in style.
